RoboCup Brazil Open Flying Robot Trial League (Petrobras Robotic Challenge)

The RoboCup Brazil Open Flying Robot Trial League was created by RoboCup Brazil in 2019. In its earlier years, it is sponsored by Petrobras and is also named Petrobras Robotic Challenge. This league aims to encourage the study and development of autonomous and intelligent flying robots for inspection and operation in pipelines and installations. The Challenge is a reduced and playful model that tries to simulate the environment of oil pipelines, with 2 offshore platforms with suspended landing and take-off bases, a coastal land base, and three advanced land bases.

Among the research challenges still existing in the world about autonomous and intelligent robots, the PETROBRAS ROBOTIC CHALLENGE aims to stimulate the development of robust aerial robotic systems and flight controllers (path, altitude, and pose); with accurate, camera-independent tracking and location; high-capacity embedded processing; and devices for handling and loading objects.

Simulated Arena used for Latin American and Brazilian Robotics Competitions in 2021

Since 2020, this league uses a simulated version of the arena using Gazebo simulator. This is the solution found to hold virtual competitions during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2019, physical arena and drones were used.
